What will it be today? The spicy malatang soups originally come from Sichuan. In late 2023, the Chinese chain Yangguofu opened its first German restaurant in Düsseldorf. It now has ten more branches across Germany in Munich, Cologne and Berlin. The chain has now received praise from the very top: China’s top propaganda newspaper People’s Daily proudly announced that malatang came to Germany. According to Yangguofu’s CEO Germany, the restaurants also contribute to improving Chinese culinary literacy: „Some guests have already learned the Chinese words wēi-là (less spicy) and jiā-là (spicier please).“
