Until now, Constantin Schreiber wasn’t particularly known for a deep affinity with Sinology. Yet during his final appearance as a Tagesschau news anchor, he signed off with these resonant words: „I wish you – and all of us – many positive stories and continued faith in the good. A Chinese proverb says: Wherever you go, go with all your heart. I think that’s good advice. For the last time, I wish you a pleasant evening.“ The phrase – commonly cited in German internet circles as a quote from Confucius – doesn’t actually appear in any verified Chinese sources. The closest equivalent in meaning may be a saying from the Analects: 心之所向, roughly translated as „follow where the heart leads.“ Nevertheless, Schreiber’s message was picked up by a Chinese-language WeChat account that regularly translates content from German media. Whether or not the saying was truly Chinese mattered little in the comment section. There, one topic dominated – and it wasn’t philosophical: „最帅的主持人辞职了唉“ – „Oh no, the most handsome host has resigned!“
